A lot of the recipes that I end up working on stem from products that I was never satisfied with. When we are talking about barbecue sauce, let’s face it- it gets personal real quick. Whenever there are competitions dedicated to that particular product, you know it’s serious. Allegiances are developed, loyalty is rooted, and there is nothing like the smell of YOUR barbecue sauce when it hits the grill. I’m completely with you.
Here’s what we work with in our house…
Whiskey Barbecue Sauce
1/4 Cup Butter
1/2 Sweet Onion- Minced
4 Cloves Garlic- Minced
1/2 Red Bell Pepper- Finely Chopped
1 1/3 Cup Sweet Chili Sauce
2/3 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Whiskey
2 T Worcestershire
2 T Vinegar
1 1/2 T Chili Powder
2 t Kosher Salt
2 t Black Pepper
1/2 t Cayanne
Heat a sauce pot and toss in butter, let melt and begin to sizzle. Add garlic, give it a stir- then the onions and bell pepper. Cook until tender and translucent. While your peppers and onions are working, combine the rest of your ingredients in a bowl. Once peppers and onions are sufficiently sauteed add remaining ingredients to your pot. Stir gently to combine and allow to simmer for around 20 minutes. The longer your let it cook the thicker it will get.
Let it cool slightly and you’re ready to roll! Sweet and tangy with a kick, this sauce works great for a marinade, on a burger, or topping a meatloaf (mmhmm). Can you smell it yet..? SOOO gooooood.

An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a colleague who was conducting a little homework on this.
And he actually bought me breakfast simply because I stumbled upon it for him…
lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thanks for the meal!!
But yeah, thanks for spending time to discuss this subject
here on your blog.

I’m impressed, I must say. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about.
Now i’m very happy that I came across this during my hunt for something relating to this.
